We're all living in AMERIKA

The United States of America, land of the free... We see our country as the best of the best. Back to back World War champs. The World Police. Kickin ass and taking names. This is the America that we know and love today. But in reality are we really as cool as we think we are? I believe so! Why? Well American culture is the "mainstream" or "pop culture" that influences to the world. We set the standards and other countries follow. They want a successful and thriving economy much like ours! We've made many ground breaking innovations! Sending a man to the moon! Nuclear weapons! Free economy! Freedom of Speech! We have so many things that we take for granted that we're blind to see them but rest of the world does and they try to follow in our footsteps. The video below is a music video to the song AmeriKa by the popular German band Rammstein. The music video is poking fun at how America influences the world and is its leader. We see American name brands such as Coke and Mickey Mouse and many other things that we find that's part of our "American Culture". Although this song is an exageration, there still is much truth to the lyrics, which are posted below the video. RAMMSTEIN- AMERIKA LYRICS (ENGLISH TRANSLATED) We're all living in America, America is wunderbar. We're all living in America, Amerika, Amerika. When I'm dancing, I want to lead, even if you all are spinning alone, let's exercise a little control. I'll show you how it's done right. We form a nice round (circle), freedom is playing on all the fiddles, music is coming out of the White House, and near Paris stands Mickey Mouse. We're all living in America... I know steps that are very useful, and I'll protect you from missteps, and anyone who doesn't want to dance in the end, just doesn't know that he has to dance! We form a nice round (circle), I'll show you the right direction, to Africa goes Santa Claus, and near Paris stands Mickey Mouse. We're all living in America, America is wunderbar. We're all living in America, Amerika, Amerika. We're all living in America, Coca-Cola, Wonderbra, We're all living in America, Amerika, Amerika. This is not a love song, this is not a love song. I don't sing my mother tongue, No, this is not a love song. We're all living in America, Amerika is wunderbar. We're all living in America, Amerika, Amerika. We're all living in America, Coca-Cola, sometimes WAR, We're all living in America, Amerika, Amerika.

  1. I took a social scinece class that focused on global issues when I was going to school up in Washington. In the class we talked a lot about globalization and all of our interdependiences every country has with other countries is having influence in a lot of different ways and one of the concerns is how we are losing culture. I do believe that America has a lot to do with that influence, but I also remember distinctively reading an article about how we as Americans might not be on top of the food chain like we think we are.

  3. This song is awesome. It's funny, it shows the rest of the world following America's trends and lifestyle. The Asian boys who were eating the cheeseburger was my favorite part. Definitely defines pop culture in our country's society, especially with the Coca-Cola brand becoming so global. We have influenced the world, whether some argue in a negative or positive way. That's pop culture for sure. Great post, Ratissa.

  4. I think they are making fun of us in a very satirical way. Europeans do not have a good opinion of American imperialism, be it political, economical, or cultural.
